Apr 20 – The Newport Marathon was once again a huge success. With 10,500. plus runners in the city and on the levels. The men’s marathon was won by Jacob Tasker (02:21:07) and the men’s half marathon winner was Adam Bowden (01:09:57).
Tasker said “He said: “Trails are my forte, so it was a little bit strange today, I was waiting for a hill just to get a little bit of a break, but the bridge at the end offered a little bit of that. It was a brilliant course and perfect conditions today – the support was amazing and the crowds really got you going, so thank you to everyone who came out to support.”
The winners of the 10K race were Dafydd Jones (29:24) and Donna Morris (35:43).Women’s marathon winner, Samantha Antell, also set herself a new PB with a time of 2:43:15 and half marathon wheelchair winner, Owain Terrell, also set a new PB and broke the 60-minute mark, claiming the title in 59:08.
Antell said: “I love this course, it’s the third time I’ve done it, and I’m really pleased with how today went. I had three goals – to get a PB, to get the Bideford all-time club record and to win – so I’m really pleased to have achieved these.
In the women’s half marathon distance, Natasha Wilson (Mickey Morris Racing Team), set a new course record with a time of 01:11:17.

The ABP Newport Marathon Festival will return for 2026 on Sunday 19 April, offering a thrilling festival of running with marathon, half marathon, 10K and mile race options. It all starts at 9am near the University building.
The popular race is a firm favourite on the Welsh running calendar, boasting one of the flattest marathon courses in Europe. Nearly 70% of all finishers have claimed a PB on a route that offers iconic landmarks, including the city’s historic Castle, traditional Victorian Market, Transporter Bridge, modern riverfront development and International Sports Village. Marathon and half marathon races also take in the stunning scenery of the Gwent Levels – with its coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages.
The route for the ABP Newport Marathon was devised by double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace.The fast and fun supporting half marathon and 10k races races give runners of every ability the opportunity to experience the marathon atmosphere, without committing to the challenging 26.2-mile distance.
