June 2026 – Tyler Morgan was one of the best prospects to come out of schools and academy rugby in Newport in recent years. After showing initial promise at Caerleon Comprehensive he went through the age grades at the Dragons Academy before joining Newport RFC as a centre in 2013/14. After only eleven appearances scoring six tries he was drafted in to the Dragons regional side. On December 26 2014 he had pencilled a dual contract covering the Dragons and the Welsh national side. It was a meteoric rise resulting in his selection as part of the Wales squad for the 2015 Six Nations championship. Tyler made his full debut for Wales against Ireland in August 2015.
He later made two appearances in the 2015 World Cup.
In early 2018 he was diagnosed with diabetes after a string of knee and ankle injuries. He told the BBC “It was a shock to be diagnosed with the diabetes but it comes with its pros and cons. I know how to look after myself now. I struggle some days with it but overall it’s not too bad.”
On his return to the national team scored his first senior Wales try in the 2018 autumn series victory over Tonga in the capital.
He made 89 appearances scoring 12 tries for the Dragons before moving to the Scarlets in 2020. He said “”It is a new challenge for me, there are some great players at the Scarlets and I think the style of rugby the side play will suit my game.”
The move was not a success. He made 19 appearances in total for the region before being released. He joined the Welsh team on the Sevens circuit in May 2022 culminating in a Commonwealth Games appearance where they finished seventh.
Tyler Morgan signed a one-year contract with Biarritz Olympique in the French Pro D2, marking his first move abroad as a professional rugby player. He made his debut for the club on 2 September 2022, starting at outside centre in a Pro D2 match against Vannes. Morgan has established himself as the primary outside centre for Biarritz, bringing his experience from Welsh regional rugby to the side’s promotion ambitions. He relished the “new start” in France, viewing the move as a chance to escape the “Welsh bubble” and embrace different rugby experiences, while quickly feeling wanted and integrated into the team upon arrival. Morgan signed a new contract in July 2023 until 2026. Ultimately, Biarritz have not quite managed to escape the Pro D2 but Tyler did make 58 appearances for them scoring nine tries. They released him in early 2026. He dropped down into the third tier to play for Nissa (Nice) a team with ambitions to regain their place Pro D2 under the tutelage of former Dragons player Gareth Baber.
Tyler Morgan was pivotal in the promotion play off match with Mont de Marsan on May 31. It is best described on the Nissa Rugby website
Tyler Morgan secures promotion for Nice
The second half maintained the suspense. After a Nice penalty, Mont-de-Marsan regained the lead thanks to a converted try by Ioane Iashagachvili, 24-26, moments after a yellow card received by Clément Egiziano.
Reduced to fourteen players, the Azure team nevertheless found the necessary resources to retake the advantage. In the 73rd minute, Welsh international center Tyler Morgan concluded a long offensive sequence by scoring the decisive try. The conversion by Jean-Pascal Barraquebrought the score to (31-26).
