NEWPORT SPEEDWAY IN 1972

A changed Wasps line up saw the departure of Tommy Johanssen to Ipswich, the arrival of Graham Plant, Tony Clarke,  Barry Duke and Neil Street. The line up lacked a team leader and after a solid start a string of poor results saw Swede Bo Wirebrand and Phil Woodcock added to the squad.

The changes did not see an improvement in fortunes and the lowest point of the season saw the Wasps humiliated at home to Kings Lynn 54-24! They responded by beating Swindon 41-37 before home hammerings saw them go down 48-30 to Sheffield and 46-32 to Poole. They managed only 9 wins out of 34 and finished in last place in the League.

Ole Olsen of Wolverhampton won the Prince of Wales Trophy, the Welsh Open went to John Boulger of Leicester.
